How to Apply for a Florida Nursing License:
RN’s and LPN’s are eligible to apply for Florida nurse licensure by endorsement:
- If they hold a valid license to practice nursing in another state or U.S. territory, or When they have successfully completed the State Board Test Pool Examination (SBTPE) or the NCLEX, or When they have actively practiced nursing in another state, jurisdiction, or U.S. territory for 2 of the preceding 3 years without any criminal history or having his or her license acted against by any licensing authority.
- Applicants must: Submit a license application with the appropriate fees, payable to the Florida Board of Nursing. Schedule a fingerprint appointment with a Livescan service provider; once completed, fingerprints are submitted electronically to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. Contact licensing board(s) where their initial and active licenses are held and request verification be sent to the Florida Board of Nursing.
- *A fee of $110 is required for Florida licensure by endorsement; fees must also be paid to LiveScan service providers for fingerprinting.

After the state board has received all required documentation and fees, most nurses receive their Florida RN or LPN license within 4-5 weeks. Timing varies by seasonal demand. The state does not issue temporary licenses.

Florida is an NLC State
Florida is part of the Nurse Licensure Compact, which encompasses nearly 39 states. If a nurse claims another compact state as their primary state of residence and has a multistate nursing license, they can pursue travel nursing jobs in Florida—without having to pay additional fees or obtaining another license. The Nursys system can verify if a nurse already holds a multistate nursing license.

Florida nursing licenses must be renewed every two years. The state licensing department will renew an RN license upon receipt of:
Completed CE requirements Completed renewal application Required fees – which vary based on license status and timing
Reactivating a license from inactive or retired status requires additional fees and continuing education requirements.
