Kansas Nursing License

If you’ve ever dreamt of getting a first-hand look at the Great Plains, then a career as a travel nurse in Kansas could be a perfect fit. This Midwestern state is known as the heart of America and home to the state capital, Topeka, as well as a variety of other cities such as Wichita and Kansas City. There’s also a place called the 4-State Lookout, where you can view four states--Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, and Iowa--all at the same time!

With plenty to do on days off, it is no wonder why nurses from all across the country look for travel nurse opportunities here. But how do you get started?

Kansas and The Multi-State Nurse Licensing Compact

The Kansas Nursing Board has all of the info you need to get on your way to obtaining the state license. One piece of exciting news is that Kansas joined the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) recently! Under the NLC, nurses can practice in other NLC states, without having to obtain additional state licenses.

With that being said, if you already hold a license in an NLC state, you can begin to get your license by obtaining a multi-state license, ensuring you meet the 11 uniform licensure requirements, and looking for travel nurse opportunities in your specialty in the state of Kansas. Because Kansas is a new compact state, the Board is experiencing a high volume of licensing inquiries. They currently have a lead time of 6-8 weeks upon receipt of all required information--including the required fingerprint and background check submissions.

If you do not hold an active license or hold a license in a non-compact state, you will need to apply for a nursing license in Kansas.
